To mark the 117th birthday anniversary of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the Convention People’s Party (CPP) has called on the government to safeguard, revamp, and properly manage Ghana’s state-owned enterprises (SOEs).
In an official statement signed by National Communications Director Osei Kofi Acquah, the CPP raised concerns over the decay of key state assets and the selling off of state enterprises to politically connected individuals.
The party strongly opposed government plans for private-sector participation in the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), labeling the move an attempt to privatize the power utility. In response, the Ministry of Energy maintained that private involvement aims to introduce operational expertise without relinquishing state ownership.
Rejecting the government’s stance, Acquah stressed that state-owned companies can be effectively managed internally:
“It is illogical to believe that a company, factory, and state-owned enterprise cannot be properly managed by the over 30 million Ghanaians, but can be managed effectively by single individual(s).”
The CPP urged the state to honor Nkrumah’s core principles of nationalism, self-reliance, and state-led industrialization by breathing new life into public enterprises to generate revenue and create jobs for unemployed youth.
