Telecel Ghana has celebrated 15 years as headline sponsor of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, with the 27th edition delivering major wins for artistes and renewed attention on the country’s creative industry.
Held at the Grand Arena, the ceremony brought together musicians, industry players and corporate leaders for what organisers described as one of the most memorable editions of the awards.
The night was dominated by Black Sherif, who won Artiste of the Year for the second time, becoming only the fourth artiste in the awards’ history to achieve the feat. He also picked up Album of the Year for Iron Boy, Songwriter of the Year, Best Afro Pop Song for Sacrifice, and Best Hip Hop Song for Where Dem Boyz.
Rapper Medikal also had a strong showing, winning Telecel Most Popular Song of the Year with Shoulder, as well as Best Hiplife Song, Collaboration of the Year, and Best Hiplife/Hip-hop Artiste of the Year.
A major emotional highlight of the night was a posthumous lifetime achievement award presented to highlife legend Daddy Lumba, honoured with tribute performances from Ofori Amponsah, Okyeame Kwame and Kwabena Kwabena.
Performances from Wendy Shay, Kofi Kinaata, Lasmid, Samini and Piesie Esther added energy to the event, which was themed “A Touch of Glitter.”
Telecel’s leadership, led by Group CEO Moh Damush, attended the ceremony as the company marked its long-standing partnership that began in 2011 under Vodafone Ghana before continuing after rebranding to Telecel in 2024.
Telecel Ghana CEO Patricia Obo-Nai said music remains central to Ghana’s identity and cultural expression, reaffirming the company’s commitment to supporting the growth of the music industry.
Charterhouse Productions CEO Theresa Ayoade also praised Telecel’s support, saying the partnership has helped project Ghanaian music internationally over the years.
The Telecel Music for Good Award went to Afrofusion duo Lali x Lola for their breast cancer awareness campaign, which has reached schools across multiple regions.
The event ended with an after-party dubbed the Telecel Red Room, bringing together artistes and industry stakeholders for networking and celebration.
